Days Gone

How is it?

I played on Hard.
To be brief: I think it’s as mid as you can get.

To elaborate, they talk too much and the dialogue is so bad it’s like nails on a chalkboard for me. The constant radio chatter is so obnoxious its unreal. I did enjoy the gameplay for the most part, but I kept getting interrupted by some dingus talking about something totally irrelevant.

The motorcycle aspect is cool, albeit kind of simple. You have scrap that is plentiful, and gas that is everywhere. It never felt like I was scraping by, but like I was just a guy on a motorcycle that just so happened to be in a zombie apocalypse. Which is fine, but they all talk about things like food isn’t literally everywhere & gas isn’t still literally coming out of the pumps even without power. The interactions during the cutscenes are like watching people with social disabilities attempt their first time of talking to another human. I can’t stress this enough, it is seriously so hard to take this game seriously when the characters are so unlikeable.

The guns feel okay, none of them have any real weight, and the hordes are relatively easy to navigate or destroy. The game almost got interesting when you meet Iron Mike but even then it’s still feeling like I’m trying to swim through a bog as a 600lb man neck deep. It just didn’t feel good to play, hear, or interact with the world (which there is minimal of). I could be coming off too harsh, but I got about 60 hours in before I just couldn’t take it any more. The reasoning behind the characters’ decisions is irrational at best and downright appalling at worst.

The most redeeming factor is when you upgrade your motorcycle, you really feel like it made a difference. Faster means faster, more gas means more gas. It’s refreshing seeing a game actually do this, and not making me spend 10 hours for a 2.5% increase in speed is really nice. The guns are really disappointing though, I was hoping to be able to add sights or something but the most you can do is get bigger mags which is fine but I really was hoping for more.

Overall, I can’t recommend this in good faith. I feel like I’d be recommending molasses to someone who wants some real intense zombie survival.

Overall: 3.5/10
